Offence Summary

Ian Lavender pleaded guilty to making over 48,000 indecent images of children over a seven-year period, along with possessing prohibited images of children and extreme pornographic images involving animals. His sentencing was delayed until January 2026.

Full Description

Ian Lavender, a 58-year-old man from Wall Heath, appeared at Dudley Magistrates Court on charges related to the creation and possession of a vast quantity of indecent images of children. Between May 24, 2017, and November 16, 2024, Lavender admitted to making 2,899 category A indecent images, 1,828 category B images, and 44,063 category C images, totalling 48,790 still and moving images depicting child sexual abuse.

In addition to these offences, on November 15, 2024, authorities discovered Lavender in possession of 13 prohibited images of children and 35 extreme pornographic images portraying acts of intercourse or oral sex with animals, either dead or alive. Lavender indicated guilty pleas to all five counts on October 30, 2024, acknowledging his involvement in producing tens of thousands of such illicit materials over the seven-year span.

The case was committed to Wolverhampton Crown Court for sentencing, originally scheduled for November 27, 2024, but delayed due to procedural reasons. Lavender, residing on Beachwood Avenue in Wall Heath, was granted conditional bail pending his next court appearance on January 7, 2026, where he will receive his formal sentence for these serious sexual offences.

This case highlights the ongoing efforts by West Midlands Police to combat child sexual exploitation through digital means, with Lavender's guilty pleas providing a significant step towards accountability. The court proceedings were reported by Stourbridge News, emphasising the scale of the material involved and the prolonged nature of the offending behaviour.
