Offence Summary

Vinnie Pinkham, a teenage sex offender from Eltham, targeted children as young as six online, grooming them to send explicit images and videos. He was jailed for seven years after being convicted of multiple sexual offences against children.

Full Description

A 19-year-old man from Eltham, south-east London, has been sentenced to seven years in prison for a series of online sexual offences against young children. Vinnie Pinkham was found guilty of targeting vulnerable youngsters aged between six and eight across England and Wales, using social media platforms to befriend and groom them in a 'horrific' campaign of abuse.

The Metropolitan Police Service, in collaboration with Greater Manchester Police and North Wales Police, conducted a three-year investigation that uncovered Pinkham's crimes. Detectives gathered digital evidence, including explicit photographs and incriminating data from his mobile phone, as well as statements from the young victims and their families. Pinkham was convicted on eight counts, including two charges of inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, sexual communication with a child, and possession of extreme pornographic images.

According to court proceedings reported by the Evening Standard on 5 April 2024, Pinkham exploited children's innocence by posing as a peer in online games and chat rooms. He encouraged them to send extreme sexual images and videos for his personal gratification. The investigation revealed the severity of the material, which officers had to grade for indecency prior to court presentation.

  • Pinkham befriended children online via social media.
  • He groomed victims aged 6-8 to produce and share explicit content.
  • Evidence included seized devices with horrific abuse images.

Detective Constable Amy Burnell, who led the Metropolitan Police investigation, praised her team's professionalism in handling the disturbing material. She stated: 'Pinkham exploited children’s youthful ignorance for his personal gratification. We are committed to finding individuals who wish to cause harm to young people across London. We’ll do everything in our power to protect children, bringing to justice those predators who threaten their safety.'

In addition to his custodial sentence, Pinkham was issued with a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order to restrict his future interactions and access to potential victims. The case underscores the dangers of online grooming and the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to safeguard children in digital spaces.
