Offence Summary

Colin Wright admitted to making and possessing hundreds of indecent images of children, as well as distributing one such image and possessing an extreme animal-related indecent image. The discovery followed an accidental email of one image to another person who reported it to the police.

Full Description

Colin Wright, a 75-year-old man formerly residing in Inkberrow and now living on Bath Road in Worcester, appeared at Worcester Magistrates' Court on Thursday, April 27, where he admitted to serious sexual offences involving indecent images of children.

The case came to light after Wright inadvertently sent an email containing an indecent image of a child to someone who promptly contacted the police. As detailed by prosecutor Kerry Lovegrove, various devices were seized from Wright's possession, revealing a substantial collection of illicit material. Wright pleaded guilty to making 75 category A indecent pictures of children—the most serious classification—along with 60 category B images and 673 category C indecent photographs of children. Additionally, he admitted to possessing an extreme indecent image involving horses and dogs, and to distributing one indecent picture of a child on November 11, 2016.

The offences of making and possessing the images occurred on or before November 17, 2016. Magistrates determined that the gravity of these crimes necessitated sentencing at a higher court, committing Wright to appear at Worcester Crown Court on Friday, May 26. As a condition of his bail, Wright was prohibited from having any unsupervised contact with children.

This incident underscores the role of public vigilance in reporting suspicious content, leading to the swift intervention by authorities. The case was reported in the Redditch Advertiser, highlighting Wright's previous connection to the Inkberrow area.
