Full Description

A 49-year-old man from Coventry has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for a series of sexual offences committed against three young girls over more than a decade. Derry Tift appeared at Warwick Crown Court where he pleaded guilty to 16 counts of sexual offences spanning from 2001 to 2013, in addition to three counts of making indecent images of children.

The case came to light following reports that Tift was accessing indecent material online, prompting West Midlands Police to search his home. Officers arrested him during the investigation, which uncovered evidence linking him to the historical abuse of the three victims, now women, who bravely came forward to report the crimes.

Detective Constable Clare Sherwin from the Public Protection Unit commented on the significance of the case, stating: 'This case highlights the importance of reporting sexual abuse regardless if the crimes are non-recent.' The offences involved the sexual abuse of the three young children, demonstrating a pattern of predatory behaviour over the 12-year period.

The sentencing at Warwick Crown Court on 29th June 2024 underscores the severity of child sexual exploitation and the commitment of law enforcement to pursue such cases, even when they are historical. Tift's admission to the charges ensured a conviction, bringing some measure of justice to the survivors.
