Offence Summary

Christopher Stagg, a registered sex offender, was jailed for two years after pleading guilty to making numerous indecent images of children and breaching his Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Full Description

Christopher Stagg, a 51-year-old registered sex offender from Swindon, has been sentenced to two years in prison for re-offending by creating and possessing child sexual abuse material. The case, heard at Swindon Crown Court, highlights the ongoing challenges in monitoring individuals subject to strict legal restrictions.

Between 6 June 2025 and 26 July 2025, Stagg was charged with making 139 inaccessible Category A indecent photographs of a child, 341 inaccessible Category B indecent images of a child, and 2685 inaccessible Category C images. These categories represent the most severe levels of child sexual abuse imagery, with Category A being the gravest. Additionally, Stagg breached his Sexual Harm Prevention Order on three occasions, demonstrating a deliberate circumvention of the safeguards imposed upon him following prior convictions.

Investigating officer Beccy Scott from the Child Internet Exploitation Team described the offender's actions as deceptive and purposeful. "Despite being subject to a court order and the sex offenders register, Stagg has deceptively and purposefully continued to re-offend by using undisclosed devices hidden within his property, despite being monitored through our Management Of Violent Sexual Offenders department," Scott stated. Officers were forced to enter Stagg's home forcibly, where they discovered hidden devices concealed in a kitchen extractor fan and a metal bed frame. This marks the third time Stagg has been convicted of making child sexual abuse images, underscoring a pattern of recidivism.

Scott further emphasised the broader impact of such offences: "Through his actions he has created a market for child abuse material. Every single child in the thousands of images he held in his possession is a victim of sexual exploitation." The sentencing on 7 November 2025 was welcomed by the team, with safeguarding vulnerable children and bringing child sex offenders to justice remaining their top priority. The case was reported by Lizzie Coutts for Rayo Greatest Hits Swindon News, published on 7 November 2025.
