Offence Summary

Bekir Rasheed was convicted of trafficking a teenage girl and sexual activity with a child, for which he was jailed for four years.

Full Description

Bekir Rasheed, residing on Ulverston Road in Woodseats, Sheffield, was one of five men convicted at Sheffield Crown Court for their roles in trafficking and sexually abusing a vulnerable teenage girl in Yorkshire during the summer of 2013.

The ordeal began when the girl was taken by Mohammed Shapal and Shakeal Rehman. Three days later, she was brought to a party hosted by Rasheed, where Yaseen Amini sexually assaulted her. Rasheed was found guilty of trafficking the girl to facilitate this abuse and of sexual activity with a child.

Sentencing Rasheed to four years' imprisonment, Judge Jonathan Durham-Hall QC remarked on the compartmentalised participation of each man in subjecting the girl to an appalling ordeal, emphasising that she was a very vulnerable individual in need of protection who received none. The case was prosecuted with evidence from South Yorkshire Police, highlighting the planned nature of the exploitation.

Key details:

  • Rasheed hosted the party where the initial assault occurred.
  • Convictions: Trafficking and sexual activity with a child.
  • Sentence: 4 years custodial.

This case underscores the severe impact of grooming and trafficking networks on vulnerable youths, as reported by the BBC on 20 October 2014.
