Full Description

Mohammed Ali Sultan, aged 28 and formerly residing on Victoria Avenue in Wellington, Shropshire, has been sentenced to an extended prison term following a conviction for serious sexual offences. Sultan was already serving a seven-year sentence imposed three years prior for his involvement in a West Midlands child abuse ring, where he admitted to having sexual intercourse with two teenage girls, one of whom was just 13 years old. This earlier conviction stemmed from his role in a broader paedophile network that exploited vulnerable young girls.

In a separate investigation, Sultan faced charges related to offences committed in 2007. Last month, he was convicted at Shrewsbury Crown Court of two counts of rape and one count of attempted rape. On Tuesday, the court extended his existing sentence by six years, resulting in a total custodial period that now encompasses both the original and additional terms. He will also be subject to five years on licence upon release, aimed at protecting the public from further harm.

The case was prosecuted by West Midlands Police, with Detective Chief Inspector Neil Jamieson commenting on the outcome. 'This has been a traumatic process for the victim and one which has taken some time to come to a conclusion,' Jamieson stated. He praised the victim's bravery, noting, 'I'd like to praise her bravery in coming forward to report offences and for her determination to ensure Sultan has been brought to justice.' Jamieson further emphasised the sentence's significance, saying it 'clearly indicates the danger Sultan poses to the community'.

The offences trace back to 2007, highlighting the long-term impact of such crimes and the persistence of police efforts to bring perpetrators to account. This sentencing concludes a prolonged legal process, building on the 2013 resolution of the related child sex abuse ring case, as reported by BBC News.
