Full Description

Marvyn Thomas, a 38-year-old man from Old Trafford in Greater Manchester, was sentenced to thirteen and a half years in prison on 16 March 2026 at Manchester Crown Court following a two-week trial. He had been convicted on 3 February 2026 of serious offences including rape, sexual assault, three counts of actual bodily harm (ABH), two counts of non-fatal strangulation, and two counts of criminal damage. The case, investigated by Greater Manchester Police, highlighted a prolonged campaign of abuse, control, and violence inflicted upon his victim.

The offences occurred over a sustained period, beginning in the summer of 2023 and continuing until March 2024. Thomas subjected his victim to repeated physical and sexual violence. In one particularly harrowing incident, following a verbal argument, Thomas pursued the victim into their bedroom, seized them by the throat, slammed them against the wall, and issued death threats while continuing to verbally and physically assault them. He applied such intense pressure to the victim's throat that it fully restricted their breathing; the victim briefly escaped before Thomas grabbed them again, forcibly removed their pants, and declared he would have sex with them 'whenever he wants'. The assault escalated as Thomas then raped the victim.

  • Throughout the summer of 2023 until March 2024, Thomas raped his victim on multiple occasions.
  • In October 2023, a prolonged and violent attack by Thomas resulted in the victim sustaining serious injuries that required hospitalisation.
  • The violence persisted into March 2024; on Mother's Day, Thomas punched the victim in the face, rendering them unconscious and causing severe swelling and bruising to their eye.

After a period of no contact, Thomas reappeared in the victim's home area, stalking them on numerous occasions. In one alarming episode, the victim and their family were forced to barricade themselves inside a business premises, where staff intervened to prevent Thomas from entering. Detective Constable Nicola Hughes from Greater Manchester Police's City of Manchester CID described the case as a 'sustained campaign of violence, intimidation and abuse over a significant period of time'. She emphasised the 'deeply traumatic' harm caused and praised the victim's 'extraordinary bravery' in coming forward, noting that the sentence was 'a testament to their courage'. The investigation underscored Greater Manchester Police's commitment to supporting victims and bringing perpetrators to justice, as reported in the official police statement published on their website.
