Offence Summary

William Brown, a 48-year-old man from Pinner, was jailed for 12 years after pleading guilty to raping and sexually abusing two young boys aged 7 and 11, including grooming and inciting sexual activity.

Full Description

William Brown, a 48-year-old resident of Beatrice Close in Pinner, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for a series of child sex offences committed against two young boys in Hampshire. The case, investigated by Hampshire Police, came to light following reports of grooming and abuse, highlighting the dangers posed by predatory individuals to vulnerable children.

The offences occurred in two separate incidents: in 2020, Brown sexually abused a seven-year-old boy in Port Solent, and in September 2023, he groomed and abused an 11-year-old boy in Portsmouth. An investigation was promptly launched by the Child Abuse Investigation Team after the reports surfaced, leading to Brown's arrest. The diligent work of Detective Constable Nick Park and the team ensured that evidence was gathered effectively, resulting in Brown pleading guilty ahead of a trial.

At Portsmouth Crown Court on Friday, 14 February 2024, Brown was convicted on multiple charges, including rape of a boy under 13, two counts of causing or inciting a boy under 13 to engage in sexual activity, two counts of sexually assaulting a boy under 13, and grooming. In addition to the 12-year custodial sentence, he was issued with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order to restrict his future behaviour and protect the public.

Detective Sergeant Jo Smith of Hampshire Police commended the bravery of the young victims, stating: "We would like to recognise the bravery of these young victims for speaking out against Brown and we thank them for trusting the police. It is because of their courage to come forward to their families and to us that we have been able to see Brown put behind bars." She also praised the investigative team: "I would like to commend the work of the officer in charge of the case, Detective Constable Nick Park, who conducted a diligent investigation which led to the suspect pleading guilty ahead of a trial."

This case underscores the ongoing efforts by Hampshire Police and partner agencies to safeguard children from sexual exploitation. DS Smith added: "The Child Abuse Investigation Team will continue to work hard every day with our partner agencies to safeguard children and ensure that offenders like Brown face the justice they deserve." The sentencing provides closure for the victims and serves as a stark reminder of the severe consequences for those who perpetrate such crimes.
