Full Description

Michael Modlinsky, a 45-year-old man from Salford, was sentenced to 11 years in prison following his conviction on serious sexual offence charges. The case, investigated by Greater Manchester Police's Salford Criminal Investigation Department, centred on incidents that unfolded in August 2025.

The victim first encountered Modlinsky in August 2025, and over the subsequent four weeks, they had several interactions. However, Modlinsky soon escalated his behaviour by initiating more frequent contact and making overtly sexual comments towards her. Despite the victim's repeated assertions that there was no romantic or sexual relationship between them, Modlinsky persisted with this unwanted attention.

On one particular evening during this period, the situation turned violent when Modlinsky began grabbing the victim and forcing himself upon her. He also issued explicit threats to rape her, creating a terrifying ordeal for the victim. Displaying remarkable bravery, she managed to push him away and escape the room, after which she promptly reported the offences to the police.

During his police interview, Modlinsky denied making any sexual comments and vehemently rejected the allegations of assault. Nevertheless, following a trial earlier in 2026, a jury at Bolton Crown Court found him guilty on all three counts: one of attempted rape and two of sexual assault. The sentencing took place on 7 April 2026, where Judge [name not specified] imposed the 11-year custodial sentence. In addition to the prison term, Modlinsky will be subject to three years on licence upon his release and a lifetime restraining order to protect the victim.

Detective Constable Chloe Catterall from the Salford CID commented on the case, stating: 'This was an incredibly frightening incident for the victim, and her courage throughout this investigation and the court proceedings has been remarkable. I hope today's sentencing offers her some sense of closure and reassurance.' She further emphasised the police's dedication, noting: 'This case demonstrates our commitment to thoroughly investigating reports of sexual assault and violence, and ensuring offenders face the full consequence of their actions.'

The conviction underscores the seriousness with which UK authorities treat sexual offences, particularly those involving coercion and violence. Greater Manchester Police, through their thorough investigation, ensured that Modlinsky was held accountable for his actions, providing a measure of justice for the victim.
