Offence Summary

Allah Karam, a 29-year-old sexual predator, raped a woman multiple times after threatening to assault a teenage boy in her care and was also convicted of raping another vulnerable woman and perverting the course of justice.

Full Description

A 29-year-old man from Bolton has been sentenced to an indeterminate term for public protection with a minimum of six and a half years following convictions for multiple rapes and perverting the course of justice. Allah Karam, residing on Mancroft Avenue in Great Lever, was found guilty at an earlier hearing of four counts of rape and one count of perverting the course of justice. The sentencing took place at Bolton Crown Court on Friday, 11 January 2013.

The primary incident occurred on 5 June 2009, when Karam visited the home of his victim in Bolton. After consuming cannabis, his behaviour turned aggressive. He ordered a teenage boy living in the house to go to bed and then propositioned the woman for sex involving the boy. Karam issued an ultimatum: she was to perform a sexual act on him, or he would rape the boy. Fearing for the boy's safety, the woman complied. They then proceeded upstairs, where Karam raped her three times.

  • Following the assaults, Karam demanded £500 from the victim to be paid the next day and insisted she pay for a taxi to leave the premises.
  • Terrified and seeking to ensure his departure, the victim agreed to his demands and immediately contacted the police upon his exit.

During subsequent police investigations, Karam was additionally arrested in connection with a sexual assault on a girl aged between 12 and 14. He was also convicted of raping another woman who was medically prohibited from sexual activity due to recent childbirth, exploiting her vulnerability.

Detective Constable Steve Cummins of Bolton CID described Karam as a sexual predator who takes advantage of vulnerable women. He added, "He clearly thought he was entitled to take what he wanted from these women and thought no-one would intervene. This good result would not have been possible without the bravery of the victims who had the courage to tell the police." The case was handled by Greater Manchester Police, highlighting the predatory nature of Karam's actions and the courage required from victims to come forward.

The indeterminate sentence underscores the severity of the offences, ensuring public protection while allowing for potential earlier release subject to parole review after the minimum term.
