Stanley Ekhator

Stanley Ekhator, a 37-year-old care worker from Manchester, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for sexually assaulting a vulnerable elderly woman in a care home. The incident occurred at a care home in Clayton, Manchester, where Ekhator exploited his position of trust to commit the offence against a 76-year-old resident with mental vulnerabilities.

Greater Manchester Police received an allegation of rape at the care home in December 2023. Initial enquiries with the victim indicated that the attack had taken place the night before she disclosed it. An extensive forensic investigation, combined with analysis of CCTV footage from the home, enabled officers to identify Ekhator as the suspect. He was a staff member at the facility and had used his access to perpetrate the crime.

Ekhator, residing on Aldermoor Close in Manchester, was first arrested on suspicion of rape and sexual activity with a person with a mental disorder. He was bailed pending further investigation but was arrested again on 13 January 2024 and formally charged with sexual activity with a person with a mental disorder. Despite denying the charges, Ekhator was convicted at Manchester's Minshull Street Crown Court earlier in 2024.

Detective Constable Tanya Andreeva, who led the investigation, described the crime as 'horrific' and praised the victim's bravery in reporting it. She stated: 'This was a distressing and traumatic investigation for the victim and her loved ones. Ekhator's lack of respect, remorse and his total disregard for the victim's wellbeing is despicable.' Andreeva highlighted how Ekhator had abused his position of power to target an extremely vulnerable individual, noting the lasting impact on the victim and her family. The police commended the victim and her relatives for their strength in coming forward, which was crucial to securing the conviction.

The case underscores the severe consequences of abusing positions of trust in care settings. Greater Manchester Police emphasised the importance of thorough investigations in protecting vulnerable residents, with the CCTV evidence proving pivotal in this instance.
