Offence Summary

Ewan James pleaded guilty to downloading indecent images of children and was placed on the Sex Offenders Register following a police investigation into his internet activity.

Full Description

A 21-year-old man from Glenrothes has admitted to possessing child abuse images and has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register after police uncovered evidence of his illegal downloads.

Ewan James, residing on Waverley Drive, appeared at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court where he pleaded guilty to the offences committed between 23 January and 21 September 2022. Prosecutor Christine Allan informed the court that police became aware of an internet connection at James's home address being used to access indecent images of children. A subsequent search of his bedroom yielded two mobile phones, which were subjected to cyber crime analysis.

The analysis revealed two category A images – the most severe classification – and seven category C images on the devices. Sheriff Steven Borthwick adjourned the case until 23 April to obtain necessary reports and hear the plea in mitigation. James's bail was continued in the interim.

This case highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat the distribution and possession of child abuse material online. Police in Fife, responding to intelligence about suspicious internet activity, acted swiftly to investigate and secure evidence.
