Full Description

Mohammed Imran Rehman, 26, was convicted in the high-profile Derby grooming scandal investigated by Derbyshire Police via Operation Retriever. The case, featuring three trials from February 2010, exposed a gang's abuse of 26 vulnerable girls, including a 12-year-old, through grooming with enticements like alcohol, cigarettes, and car rides, culminating in forced sexual acts.

Rehman was found guilty of rape following a trial. The prosecution at Nottingham Crown Court, led by Yvonne Coen QC, detailed how the group, led by Abid Mohammed Saddique and Mohammed Romaan Liaqat, targeted schoolgirls estranged from families: 'They preyed on young girls who were vulnerable, either because of their age and because of their own personal circumstances.' The abuses mirrored patterns in Rotherham, with police emphasising awareness of sexual exploitation.

Rehman received a sentence of seven-and-a-half years' imprisonment. Reported on 25 November 2010, the case included victim accounts, such as a 16-year-old's testimony of a 2008 rape: 'It felt like it lasted for hours but it didn't... I just thought if I tell him what he wants to hear, it will be done quicker.' Coen noted the girls' naivety: 'However cool and grown-up they may have wanted to be... they were naive and impressionable.'

  • Conviction: Rape (found guilty).
