Offence Summary

Ziafat Yasin was cleared of sex charges but pleaded guilty to supplying cocaine in the Derby case context and jailed for three years.

Full Description

Ziafat Yasin, 31, was part of the proceedings in the Derby sexual exploitation case handled by Derbyshire Police's Operation Retriever. Although cleared of direct sex charges, his involvement tied into the gang's operations that groomed and abused 26 vulnerable girls from February 2010 trials onwards, using substances to facilitate the crimes.

Yasin pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of cocaine, which supported the environment of the sexual abuses. Yvonne Coen QC prosecuted, noting the gang's methods: 'Once they met up, the girls were forced to have sex with, or perform sex acts on, various people.' The case involved schoolgirls targeted relentlessly, similar to Rotherham, with 13 men charged overall.

He was sentenced to three years' imprisonment. The 25 November 2010 report included victim stories, like a 16-year-old's rape testimony: 'Do you like it, do you like it? And I said yes.' Despite no sex conviction, his drug supply plea linked to the sex offender context, as drugs were used in grooming.

  • Conviction: Being concerned in the supply of cocaine (pleaded guilty); cleared of sex charges.
  • Sentence: 3 years imprisonment.
  • Context: Associated with the gang's sexual abuse of minors, though not directly charged with sex offences.
