Offence Summary

Bjorn Ballard, recently released from prison for sexual communication with a child, was found in possession of Category A indecent images of children just two days later and sentenced to 10 months in jail.

Full Description

Bjorn Ballard, aged 43 and of no fixed address, appeared at Bristol Crown Court on 15 March 2022 via video link from HMP Channings Wood. He had been released from a previous jail term in May 2020 for engaging in sexual communication with a child. However, just two days after his release, police conducted a routine check visit to his residence, leading to the analysis of his electronic devices.

The examination revealed 10 photographs of children, with six classified as Category A, the highest level of abuse. Ballard pleaded guilty to two charges of making indecent photos of children. Judge James Patrick sentenced him to 10 months' imprisonment, emphasising the severity of reoffending so soon after release.

This case highlights the ongoing monitoring of sex offenders post-release and the rapid re-engagement in prohibited activities. According to court reports from Bristol Live, such incidents underscore the challenges in preventing recidivism among those with prior convictions for child-related sexual offences.
