Full Description

A British Transport Police officer, Police Sergeant Tristan Davis, has been sentenced for sexually assaulting his colleague following a night out in London. The incident occurred on 23 April 2021 at London Bridge Station, where Davis assaulted the victim three times—once on an escalator and twice on a train. The victim repeatedly tried to push him away and eventually moved to the train aisle to escape his advances.

Davis, who was serving as an officer at the time, was immediately suspended after the victim reported the assault to the British Transport Police's Professional Standards Department. During the subsequent criminal investigation and his police interview, Davis described his behaviour as 'playful', a claim that was dismissed by the court. He was found guilty of three counts of sexual assault at an earlier hearing on 14 October 2022.

Sentencing took place on 18 November 2022 at Inner London Crown Court. Davis received a 15-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, meaning he would not serve time unless he breaches conditions, including an electronic curfew from 7pm to 6am. He was also added to the sex offenders register. Deputy Chief Constable Alistair Sutherland of the British Transport Police condemned the actions, stating: 'I would like to be completely clear that Tristan Davis does not represent the values of BTP officers. Put simply, behaviour like this is not “playful” – it is a serious criminal offence and it will always be treated as such.'

Sutherland further emphasised the force's commitment to accountability, noting: 'In this case, thanks to the victim coming forward and bringing it to our attention, detectives launched a thorough investigation into Davis so we could bring him before the courts to face justice today. I am acutely aware of how damaging incidents like this are to public confidence in policing, and I am equally as appalled that a serving officer could ever think to conduct themselves in such a way.' The case underscores the British Transport Police's zero-tolerance policy towards misconduct by its officers, ensuring thorough investigations into any breaches of law or standards.
