Full Description

John Hosker, a 43-year-old man, was sentenced to eight years in prison in 2019 for a child sex offence committed in April 2018. The offence involved targeting a vulnerable young child, demonstrating a lack of remorse on Hosker's part, as noted by authorities at the time.

According to Cumbria Police, Hosker was granted temporary licence from HMP Haverigg, located in Cumbria, England, for an approved work placement. He was scheduled to return to the prison on January 8 following his off-site work duty but failed to do so, prompting a search operation by police in the Sedbergh area.

Detective Superintendent Vicki Coombes stated: "Officers are working hard to trace Hosker and return him to custody. A number of searches have been carried out. We would ask anyone who thinks they have seen Hosker or knows where he might be to contact us. Information suggests he was last in the Sedbergh area." At the time of his sentencing, Temporary Detective Constable Georgia Crowther described Hosker as "a dangerous man who targeted a vulnerable young child. Hosker showed no remorse for his actions. The victim has shown great courage despite having to go through the additional trauma of a crown court trial."

Hosker is described as a white male, 5ft 10ins tall, of slender build, with short dark greying hair and stubble. He sometimes wears glasses and may be wearing an orange jacket, black trousers, and carrying a small black rucksack. Police have indicated that he is not considered a risk to others at this time.
